Another mouth to feed

Until a man sought her.

Daddy I’m sorry for being

The burden slowing your stride.

But you must know that I tried

Even after the doctors denied

Any chance of me speaking ever.

You looked again at me never

Unless I intentionally

Stepped in your way

Or when you wanted me

To empty the ashtray.
